The iPad is a computer?
well i know an ipad has all the functions of an iphone/ipod touch….but i recently found out it had a spreadsheet, word, and powerpoint app for school and business just like a mac!! i was just wondering what else can the ipad do that is similiar to a computer/ mac, like for instance can it download programs off the inernet like a pc? my mom plans on getting my dad one for fathers day

you are right, and there will be plenty of software, free and paid available to download. And there will be more games. But there is no cd drive, no USB connections
No, and, in my humble opinion, it is useless.. here is why..
You can’t change the battery
You can’t have two applications open
It uses the same OS as an iPhone
It has no camera
All the apps you get are the ones from the apple store.. period…
All the peripherals are also from apple…
In other words… i would not drop any money on it..
On the other hand if they release one that has an operative system like leopard, ill be first in line and pay the double.. but the current iPad is an advertising toy…
It is an in-between gadget, buy it for dad it you got the money, he may find a use for it. ~
Is it a computer? Yes. Is it as functional as your iMac or Dell? No. The OS (operating system i.e. Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X) is the same as the one that runs on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Therefore no it will not be able to download applications other than those found in the app store onto the device. You can only get new software from Apple’s App Store. That spreadsheet and word thing is using Apple’s own custom designed office productivity sweet known as “iWork” that has been made into an app-like program that was ported (moved across OS’s) to the iPad OS. So other than iWork there are really no other dedicated productivity apps. In terms that the common consumer would understand, NO the iPad is not a computer, it doesn’t do nearly as much as a full fledged desktop/laptop/netbook computer.
For all intents and purposes, the iPad is an Oversized iTouch (iPod Touch).
Read many online reviews and you’ll see that many reviewers also state this.
NO, it’s not a computer and it’s NOT suppose to replace a notebook which various Apple news releases and online iPad reviews have stated! A netbook has more features than the iPad!
If you already have an iTouch, then it’s really not worth getting the iPad unless you REALLY WANT it or have extra cash to spend. It’s good for eBooks but really not much else as the iTouch essentially handles almost the same things. The videos aren’t that good since many movies/videos must be converted to the iPad settings.
Many people have posted, including self, that it’s better to wait until version 2 comes out which “should” add “improvements”. Look at how the iTouch has changed!
to me i think so if it has all of that of course it is why wouldn’t it be………………..
