The Archos 5 Portable is not some twisted adaptation of the Frenchie’s small touch screen tablet: it’s using the new operating system, Android, you may have seen on some phones. That suggests it’s amazingly simple to browse the internet via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, you can also tune into the radio or listen to music stored either on the Archos or on a micro SD card.

It is worth noting that the Archos tablet is now very stable following several firmware releases and a joy to use. What a great bit of kit with up to 500gb (eat your heart out apple!!). 64gb is the best you can get from the ipod, feeble if you want to store a large film compilation.

The android market is one of the fastest growing and the Archos portable 5 has s great deal to offer. The dvr station allows recording direct from a source such as Sky or Cable. This is so cool if you want to download one of your favourite programs and watch it on the way to work the next day. Theamount of music you can store on this is vast, with loads of room to spare, the picture and sound quality are outstanding too. In spite of its size, you will not find any difficult carrying the Archos portable Internet Tablet in your pocket, it’s so thin, with a well placed headphones for when you’re on the move and it’s very comfortable to hold.

Archos is clearly after for the iPod touch with its internet tablet. The Archos portable is perfect if you find yourself struggling to watch a video on the Apple PMP’s small screen, but if you want a media player that doubles up for gaming its perfect. I have to say the ipod touch will soon be redundant with this is more than adequate replacement that has added features.

When all is said and done support for this is immense and you should not have any problems throwing anything at this. Well endorsed now as the finished article.
